Colombia’s armed forces stated late Monday that they have killed the leader of the FARC’s 48th Front, alias “Oliver Solarte,” in the southwestern department of Putumayo, Europa Press reports.
Solarte , who was shot dead by soldiers, was in charge of managing the front’s finances after an apparent agreement between the guerrilla group and the criminal organization “Los Rastrojos,” to control drug trafficking in the south of the country.
Solarte became head of the front after the death in January 2010 of its previous leader, “Edgar Tovar.”
Solarte’s body will now be transferred to the nearby city of Puerto Asis for formal identification.
On Monday the army also announced that they have killed a man thought to be the commander of the FARC’s 13th Front but they have been unable to confirm his identity.
