German Olano and Miguel Angel Moralesrussi have been expelled from the Colombian Liberal Party after investigations finished into allegations of improper conduct relating to public procurement contracts in Bogota, W radio reported Thursday.
The National Disciplinary Tribunal of the Liberal Party stated that it sanctions the dismissal of the two men on the grounds that both politicians, “acted against and harmed the interests of the party and didn’t act in office under the principles of honest, fairness, effectiveness and efficiency.”
The Head of the Liberal Party, Rafael Pardo, initiated internal proceedings against the two as soon as allegations began to emerge of their involvement in corrupt acts last year.
Olano and Moralesrussi were barred from holding public office last Friday for periods of 15 and 20 years respectively for fraudulently granting public contracts.
Investigations into corruption by Bogota politicians is still ongoing with the Nule Group, a construction company at the centre of the scandal, claiming that Mayor Samuel Moreno and his brother, Senator Ivan Moreno, extorted against them by demanding to receive percentages of the contracts granted.
