Colombia’s national soccer federation is set to announce Coca Cola as the new sponsor for the country’s soccer league, local media reported on Monday.
The multinational soft drink company will reportedly be revealed as the new sponsor of Colombian soccer on Tuesday at the Colfutbol’s headquarters in the capital Bogota.
The US-based Coca-Cola Company is one of the long established corporate partners of international soccer federation FIFA, with a formal association since 1974 and an official sponsorship of FIFA World Cup, among other international soccer competitions. Coca-Cola has had stadium advertising at every FIFA World Cup since 1950. Moreover, the multinational has traditionally been the partner to both Argentinian and Chilean national teams.
According to the speculation by El Tiempo newspaper, Coca-Cola will most likely venture into Colombian soccer as the main sponsor of the country’s A league, as well as of the second division B league. However, these rumors are yet to be confirmed or denied.
The soccer leagues have so far been sponsored by Coca Cola’s biggest competitor in Colombia, Postobon.
The official press conference by Colfutbol, thought to announce Coca-Cola partnership, will take place on Tuesday at 11 AM in Bogota.
