The future of U.S. news anchor Brian Andrews with Colombian television network RCN is uncertain after the American started filling in at WCBS-TV in New York.
Andrews told Colombia Reports Wednesday he is still overseeing the English production of internationally oriented television network NTN24, but “the company and I are still working out details of my continued involvement.”
“I worked for CBS as an anchor in Miami before I moved to Colombia. I was a freelance correspondent for CBS News and CBS Newsradio while I lived in Bogota. WCBS-TV in New York is one of the top stations in the US. I was delighted they called and asked if I could fill in for them last weekend,” Andrews added.
Andrews was the main force behind the now-defunct Colombianews.tv, which attempted to bring Colombian news to an English-speaking audience, until he moved back to Miami.
“I did everything I could to help show the world the positive side of what’s happening in Colombia. In the end, it was clear it just wasn’t smart for a gringo to be running all over the south of country, telling the world to come visit, when the FARC wanted to kidnap me. And it’s not like I was targeted because I made someone angry. I was told they wanted me because I was a rather “easy” target. After all, I was the smiling American on TV every day traveling all over the country.”
RCN pulled the plug on Colombianews.tv and began NTN24 shortly after Andrews left Colombia.
