Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos, began today a tour through Latin America that will take him to Ecuador, Mexico and Peru, before its conclusion in Miami.
The agenda consists on the participation at the UNASUR (Union of South American Nations formed by the twelve independent nations of South America) in which will be inaugurated a new office building for this organism twelve kilometers North of Quito, near the Middle of the World park.
This will be the first summit to be presided by former Colombian president Ernesto Samper, recently elected as general secretary.
Following the UNASUR summit, Santos will travel north to Veracruz in Mexico to join on Monday the Ibero-American summit, another event created to promote integration among 20 Latin American and 3 European nations.
Santos will then attend a UN climate conference in Peru’s capital Lima on December 12.
The conference which is the most important event on matters of environmental protection will also have the presence of the presidents of Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Bolivia and the presence of delegations of the 195 member countries of UN.
The tour will end with Santos’ participation at an event by the Clinton Foundation in Miami where he will offer a speech about the future of Latin America. The event celebrates the 20th anniversary of the First Summit of the Americas meeting that President Clinton convened in December 1994.
