Colombia news - Bible

A young man, 20, and girl, 3, were wounded when a gunman opened fire in the family’s home in Barranquilla, northern Colombia, but both are in stable condition, newspaper El Heraldo reported Tuesday.

One stray bullet ended up lodged in the family Bible, according to reports.

Victor Perez Montes was out on the terrace of a home in the San Salvador neighborhood at 2:24PM Monday, awaiting the delivery of a fruit juice and empanada, when the gunman approached him with a 9mm.

Perez sought refuge in the Martinez family home where the hired gunman pursued him, firing seven shots, which hit the victim’s abdomen and right leg.

One stray bullet hit the wrist of the three-year old girl.

“The guy did not continue firing because he saw several of the children in the house – there are ten in total – that ran behind the boy to seek refuge,” said one of the house’s inhabitants.

The two victims were taken to the Jesus Children’s Hospital. Perez was moved to Cari Hospital where his right kidney was removed and the girl remains in the hospital under observation but out of danger.

“When you look at the fury in which the guy was shooting, and how many people were here, no doubt it was a miracle that no one died,” said a family member.
