The Colombian Truckers Association (ACC) claims that the government is not interested in entering into a dialogue to end the truckers strike, Terra reports Monday.
Ricardo Virviescas, the ACC spokesman, used Friday’s meeting with Vice President Angelino Garzon to conclude that the government does not wish to enter meaningful talks to resolve the situation.
He added that more and more truckers are joining the strike from different parts of the country.
“We have received full support from our colleagues in Boyaca and Magdalena, who are holding back their vehicles and many have already arranged to go on strike.”
The ACC, which represents 180,000 truck drivers, began a strike Thursday at 12AM over government plans for free-market reforms that would eliminate the years-old policy of setting minimum freight rates that truckers are guaranteed.
