Colombia’s leading newspaper, El Tiempo, on Sunday celebrated its 100th anniversary, promising its readers the paper will “continue to fight for the country.”
In an editorial, El Tiempo looked back at editorials written for previous anniversaries and reaffirms its “liberal ideas of tolerance and democracy,” loyalty to its readers and independence of political groups.
“We will continue fighting for a more democratic, more tolerant, more inclusive and more just country,” the newspaper said.
El Tiempo started on January 30, 1911 and was owned by the family of current President Juan Manuel Santos from 1913 until 2007 when it sold the majority of shares to Spanish media corporation Grupo Planeta.
