Conservative Party candidates will not attend events hosted by former president Alvaro Uribe on his country-wide tour to promote candidates for October’s regional elections.
The chairman of the Conservative Party, Senator Jose Dario Salazar, denied that there was a rift with the former president and explained that “the Conservatives have our own agenda,” El Espectador reported Thursday.
Nevertheless, Salazar announced that the ex-head of state has agreed to “promote” Conservative candidates, while the party will meet with the Partido de la U on February 1 to coordinate which Uribista candidates will run in which localities.
Uribe plans to hold a series of these “democratic workshops” in more than 30 cities around Colombia, beginning Saturday in southern Bogota.
