The Prosecutor General’s Office will decide in 20 days whether to charge Uribe administration officials for illegally wiretapping government opponents, Caracol radio reported Tuesday.
“I considered it important to raise new evidence that must be completed in 20 days and once we finish this task a decision will be made,” the Prosecutor General Viviane Morales told the radio station.
The evidence gathered may incriminate former government officials such as the former director of the state security agency DAS, Maria del Pilar Hurtado, and former presidential secretary Bernardo Moreno.
“I thought it was necessary to reinforce some evidence and I think its important to have access to documents and some interviews,” Morales said to Caracol.
Morales, who was sworn into office January 12, has taken on the task of continuing investigations of the illegal wiretapping scandal.
