Eighteen Colombian citizens were extradited to the United States on charges of narcotrafficking and related crimes, announced the Police Directorate of Criminal Investigation Saturday.
The extraditions, along with one other to Argentina, bring to 165 the number of citizens Colombia has sent to courts abroad this year, reported Spanish press agency EFE.
Three of the 18 will land in New York, including Humbeiro Carvajal Montoya, who is reputedly the leader of a heroin ring that operated out of Medellín’s international airport.
Another three apiece will head to California and Florida, while two each will be sent to the District of Columbia and New Jersey. One will go Texas, but the grand winner is Michigan, with four.
One person was also extradited to Argentina.
Colombian authorities have extradited almost 700 people under the administration of president Álvaro Uribe, the majority citizens, for drug-related crimes.
