Colombia’s Attorney General asked the Constitutional Court to revise
the ruling of the Supreme Council about the deleting of references to
Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio from the verdict of Yidis Medina,
the congresswoman that was convicted for bribery.
Attorney General Edgardo Maya says lacks logic to delete one side of a two-sided crime, such as bribery when one if guilty of offering the bribe and the other guilty of accepting it.
Yidis Medina was convicted to four and a half year house arrest after she was convicted for having accepted a bribe of several (former) members of the Uribe administration. Palacio is one of those members who are being investigated.
The Supreme Court who had convicted Medina, called the ruling of the council “foolish” and called on international agencies to monitor “the situation that one in recent times has been confronted with the discomfort other authorities had with the fulfilling of their institutional duties.”
