The Mormon church is sending food, water and other forms of humanitarian relief to Colombia to aid with recovery efforts following flooding and landslides.
Officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Thursday said the faith is working with the Colombian president’s group for social action, the Red Cross and the Catholic organization El Minuto de Dios to distribute seven containers of clothing.
The church also plans to ship four containers of hygiene kits, school kits, newborn kits and blankets for distribution later this year.
Torrential rains in December resulted in flooding and landslides that damaged or destroyed homes and left hundreds dead. Countless others have been displaced.
The church has nearly 170,000 members and 127 congregations in Colombia. (Associated Press)
