An indigenous leader in Cauca nearly got murdered by three unknown men
who were looking for him. One of his guards saved his life by refusing
to tell the men where the leader lives, says a local indigenous group.
According to a statement by the Indigenous Association of Northern Cauca (ACIN), three men came to the territory looking for indigenous governor Marino Dagua.
Despite being beaten and threatened severely, one of the guards of the territory refused to give information about the whereabouts of his leader, after which the men left.
It is the second time this week indigenous leaders denounce violence against their people. According to the ACIN, three indigenous leaders were murdered the past few weeks in Cauca and five in the neighboring department of Nariño.
The organization called for “solidarity and a mobilization for dignity and life”, asking the international community “not to leave us alone”.
