Demobilized FARC commander Elda Neyis “Karina” Mosquera Garcia, who was named as “manager of peace” by former President Alvaro Uribe, has confessed to 218 crimes, including multiple homicides and kidnapping, reports EFE.
“Karina” was freed from prison in March 2010 following her collaboration with the Colombian justice system.
Colombia’s prosecutor general said that the crimes committed by Mosquera Garcia were carried out in the departments of Antioquia, Caldas and Quindio while she was commander of the FARC’s 47th Front.
The crimes include the killings of 27 members of the now-disbanded guerrilla organization EPL in the banana plantations of Uraba in 1994.
Mosquera Garcia is the only woman to have held the position of commander in the FARC and had been described as one of the guerrilla group’s most bloodthirsty members.
Following her release from prison “Karina” said that she wanted to leave her alias behind and fight for peace. She said the demobilization of guerrillas was important and regretted that she realized so late in the war that there are other ways or different actions to achieve peace.
