Ecuador President Rafael Correa on Wednesday arrived in the Colombian city of Cali to meet his counterpart Juan Manuel Santos and show solidarity with the victims of this year’s catastrophic rainy season, which has affected nearly 2 million Colombians.
Correa arrived in Cali with seven tons of aid meant for victims of floods and landslides caused by the excessive rains.
The Ecuadorean president was welcomed by Santos after landing at the Military Aviation School “Marco Fidel Suarez” and received “a million thanks in the name of the Colombian people,” from his Colombian counterpart.
Following a meeting with Santos, Correa will travel to the north of the Valle del Cauca departments, where the Cauca river flooded the village of Victoria.
The visit by Ecuador’s head of state is the first since the two countries on November 26 re-established ties that were broken in March 2008 following a Colombian cross-border attack on a FARC camp.
