Colombia’s Vice President Angelino Garzon says that the information recently published by WikiLeaks will not affect foreign relations with Ecuador, reports Confirmado.
Documents released Friday revealed that Colombia had sought intelligence from the U.S. on both Ecuador and Venezuela in 2008.
In March 2008 Ecuador broke off relations with Colombia after Colombia raided a FARC camp in Ecuadorean territory. Ecuador believed the raid to be a violation of the country’s sovereignty. In November 2010 Colombia and Ecuador fully restored their diplomatic ties.
Garzon said that the restoration of ties would not be upset by revelations in WikiLeaks, and that with the appointment of ambassadors to each other’s countries the relationship would be fully back on track.
Earlier this month President Juan Manuel Santos named Fernando Arboleda Ripoll as Colombia’s ambassador to Ecuador.
