The Colombian film “Retratos en un mar de mentiras” (Portraits in a Sea of Lies), directed by Carlos Gaviria, wins the Public Prize for the best fiction film at the Geneva festival “Filming in Latin America,” El Tiempo reports.
“Portraits in a Sea of Lies” tells the story of two cousins who travel from Bogota to the coast of Colombia to the land from which they were displaced when they were children. During the trip, the story of their dramatic past starts to unravel.
The film shines a spotlight on the issue of displacement in Colombia, where between two and four million people have been displaced.
The film festival, which ended on Sunday evening, showed a hundred recent films. The award for best documentary was given to the Chilean film “My Life With Carlos,” directed by Herman Berger Hertz.
