Colombia’s national police force celebrated its 119th anniversary Friday.
In an interview with newspaper El Colombiano, metropolitan police commander Coronel Juan Pablo Guerrero, stated that “for the police, a year more of commemoration means an absolute commitment to the community, the country… [and] the establishments that are involved in the security and coexistence of citizens.”
Various activities will be held throughout November to celebrate the force’s 119th anniversary. On Friday a ceremony was held to pay homage to deceased and kidnapped policemen. An official ceremony celebrating the anniversary will be held on Wednesday November 10.
The national police’s official website says “we thank you with all our heart for making this institution an example for the world” and in a forum visitors can leave a message.
On November 5, 1891, the Colombian national police were created by decree 1,000 to conserve public peace, prevent crime, protect citizens and enforce the rights guaranteed in the Constitution.
