Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez rejects Senator Piedad Cordoba’s legal challenge that he should not judge her appeal against her dismissal for allegedly collaborating with the FARC.
Ordoñez said there are no factors preventing his ability to make a ruling in Cordoba’s appeal. Cordoba argues that due to public statements made by Ordoñez regarding her case, he should not be allowed to review the appeal.
Cordoba was banned from holding public office for 18 years by Ordoñez on September 27 for supposed “FARC-politics,” or over stepping her bounds as a government negotiator and “collaborating” with the FARC.
The day the sanction was announced, Cordoba issued a statement saying that Ordoñez was unfit to dismiss her because he himself was under criminal investigation, and “had no moral authority.”
