Bolivia’s President, Evo Morales, expressed his solidarity with Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba and asked the country’s authorities to reverse her dismissal from office.
Senator Piedad Cordoba was barred from holding a public office for 18 years due to her alleged collaboration with the FARC.
“It cannot be possible that in the 21st century that Cordoba, who has successfully mediated the release of FARC hostages, is punished by removing her from office and disqualifiying her for 18 years, causing Cordoba’s civil death,” the Bolivian President was quoted as saying by W Radio.
Morales added that this decision affects not only Cordoba but also her movement, “Colombians for Peace”.
The international human rights community should “express their voice of protest against this injustice,” Morales said.
“This will cause major obstacles for those courageous Colombians who are willing to fight for peace, human rights and freedom of hostages,” the president concluded.
