Colombian Minister of Justice and the Interior German Vargas Lleras met Monday in Bogota with U.K. Crime Prevention Minister James Brokenshire to discuss how the two countries can work together to fight the drug trade.
“This joint effort between our governments is working and the result is being seen in Great Britain, where the quality of cocaine is going down and the price is going up,” Brokenshire said. “We recognize the efforts made by Colombia, but we also aware of the importance of efforts to be made by neighboring countries.”
The U.K. supports Colombia’s “Shared Responsibility” campaign, which aims to make drug users aware of the harmful way their money is put to use.
In his first international trip as minister, Brokenshire will also meet with Peru and Venezuela to discuss the fight against drugs.
