A taxi-driver and bricklayer born in Santa Marta, who inconveniently shared a name with now-deceased FARC leader “Jorge Briceño Suarez” more commonly known as “Mono Jojoy,” expressed relief at the death of the guerrilla.
Enrique Jorge Briceño Suarez was unable to vote or leave the country due to the massive security alerts that were triggered by his name. The Constitutional Court had recently granted him a writ of protection to protect him from being misidentified as the rebel commander.
Suarez says that now that Mono Jojoy is dead he plans a vacation with his family to Venezuela to relax and leave behind the “ghost” that tormented him for so long.
“Jorge Briceño Suarez” a nom de guerre for Victor Julio Suarez Rojas, a.k.a. “Mono Jojoy” was killed in an air strike by government forces. His death was announced Thursday.
