Colombian authorities say that “Romaña,” an infamous veteran guerrilla wanted by the U.S. for drug trafficking, died in the same operation that killed the FARC’s military leader “Mono Jojoy.”
Romaña, whose real name was Henry Castellanos Garzon, was one of the at least 20 guerrillas who died in “Operation Sodom,” in which the armed forces bombed a key FARC camp in the central Colombian Meta department.
According to Caracol Radio, the army was able to intercept communication by the FARC in which the death of Romaña was confirmed.
Romaña is a member of the FARC’s Estado Mayor, and commander of a number of fronts that are part of Mono Jojoy’s Eastern Bloc.
He is considered one of the guerrillas’ most bloodthirsty members and spent decades of his life in the FARC.
The United States had offered a $2.5 million dollar reward for information on his whereabouts, and Colombian courts had convicted him of kidnapping, drug trafficking, terrorism, and murder.
