According to a Colombian Constitutional Court magistrate “homosexuality” is an anomaly that can be treated by psychologists.
Judge Nilson Pinilla said so in the 2008 Constitutional Court session in which equal rights to gay couples were granted, reported newspaper El Espectador on Tuesday.
According to court records, the magistrate voted against the ruling, claiming it was “part of a trend that seeks to normalize what is biologically abnormal, against nature, which only conceives the heterosexual couple consisting of man and woman.”
While being against the right to pension for the gay partner of a deceased, the magistrate did agree registered homosexual partners have the right to health care because “these people suffer an anomaly that requires psychological attention.”
With a majority in favor, the Constitutional Court granted Colombian gay couples equal rights when registered in a notary office.
