Three policemen were killed and one was injured in an apparent FARC attack on a police patrol on Monday in northern Colombia.
The attack took place near the town of Tresboscas in the Norte de Santander department, which borders Venezuela, the department’s government secretary told radio station RCN.
“They say one of the illegal armed groups is responsible for the fact, but we have not been able to confirm this. However, FARC guerrillas are active in the region,” the official told the radio station.
The attack in Norte de Santander is the latest in what seems to be a nationwide guerrilla offensive against Colombian security forces that started after the August 7 inauguration of President Juan Manuel Santos.
According to the U.N., 56 members of the Colombian armed forces and several guerrillas have been killed in September alone.
