The death toll from Wednesday’s Colombian security forces air strike against ELN rebels in Antioquia rose to thirteen, as police discovered two more guerrilla casualties of the attack, reports El Tiempo.
“After field verification, authorities recovered seven of the thirteen bodies scattered after the bombing,” a police spokesman said.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the air strike was based on intelligence provided by the national police, and army units on the ground then seized weapons and “intelligence material” from the guerrilla group.
The ELN is the second largest guerrilla group in Colombia, with about 2,500 fighters.
Soldiers from the 25th Mobile Brigade on Wednesday killed three men and one woman from the FARC’s 18th Front during a battle with the guerrillas, including Jhon Javier Ariza Gil, alias “Milton Diaz,” who was an expert in explosives and had carried out a number of attacks in the past three years.
