U.S. experts will assist Colombian authorities in the investigation of the crash of a Boeing 737 Monday morning on the Caribbean island of San Andres, Colombia’s Transport Minister announced.
Minister German Cardona and investigators of Colombian aerial authorities were able to reach the island despite delays caused by bad weather.
Local media did not specify how or how many U.S. experts would be involved in the investigation.
Cardona told press that he hopes to have cleared at least part of the San Andres airport’s landing strip on Tuesday to allow stranded tourists to leave the island and others to arrive.
Earlier Monday, the Minister had said that the investigation into the cause were delayed and the airstrip could not be cleared until at least part of the investigations were completed. But improved meteoroligical conditions allowed the first thirteen of the injured victims of the crash to leave the island in ambulance aircrafts on Monday evening for treatment in the capital Bogota.
One of the evacuated victims is a German man, one of the 40 foreign passengers on the flight.
The crash left one woman dead and five persons seriously injured. Most of the 130 people on board suffered minor injuries.
