70 wounded by fireworks on first day of Christmas

The first day of Colombian Christmas celebrations left at least 70 people wounded, all by fireworks.

At least forty adults and thirty children were taken to hospital because of burns.

Authorities are concerned about the number of injured children and call on parents not to let their children play with fireworks.

Colombia celebrates Christmas all December. The use of fireworks throughout the whole month is common.
