Three policemen have been sent to jail for selling classified information on Wednesday while three others have been sentenced for kidnapping and extortingwanted drug traffickers, local media on Wednesday.
Three officers have been sentenced to jail for selling inside information to neo-paramilitary group “Los Urabeños.”
According to newspaper El Espectador, the prosecution proved that the officers had supported the neo-paramilitary group by providing it with the location of checkpoints set up by the narcotics division of the national police between December 2010 and November 2011.
For this information, the officers received approximately $210 a month.
In a separate case, the prosecutors proved that officers kidnapped a fugitive drug trafficker, demanding $78,000 in exchange for not issuing an arrest warrant against him.
According to Radio Santa Fe, the officers received approximately $10,000 before releasing the civilian.
The three officers pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the three officers with ties to the Urabeños pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit criminal acts for the purposes of murder, drug trafficking, forced displacement and extortion.
