Four men and two women were killed in a farmhouse in the north of Colombia. One of the victims was a demobilized paramilitary allegedly still involved in drug trafficking.
The massacre took place Friday evening just outside the village of Caceres.
“As soon they heard shooting, a police patrol went to the scene and found two persons injured; both died later in the Caceres hospital,” Colonel Oscar Gomez of the Antioquia police told Medellin newspaper El Colombiano.
At a press conference Sunday, Police commander Jose Gerardo Acevedo said that the massacre was committed by a group of ten alleged members of drug gang “Los Rastrojos” who were after “Caliche,” a former member of paramilitary organization AUC who “has had ties to drug trafficking for a long time.”
The village of Caceres lies in the Lower Cauca region, traditionally a paramilitary hotbed where a large number of farmers grow coca.
