The government of Antioquia has offered a $55,000 (COP100 million) reward for information leading to the capture of two mayoral candidates’ assassins, who were killed Monday in an attack blamed on the FARC.
Authorities have accused the 36th Front of the FARC of perpetrating the attack, which took place in the Antioquian municipality of Campamento on Monday while the candidates were campaigning ahead of local elections in October.
Conservative Party candidate Guillermo Roldan Correa and Partido de la U party candidate Donay de Jesus Correa Londoño were in two separate villages of the municipality, although the local police chief explained that they had not warned the public forces of their presence and were thus without escorts.
