The Colombian army said Friday that in 2010 it had killed 483 guerrillas, arrested 5,045 members of illegal armed groups, while 1,690 members of these groups voluntarily demobilized.
In the army’s year-end report, it said it had carried out “more than 17,000 military operations against terrorist organizations, drug trafficking networks and organized crime” throughout the year.
According to the army, it was involved in “no less than 1,200” combat situations, in which it was able to neutralize 896 acts of terrorism and destroy 863 camps occupied by armed groups.
The majority of these camps were used for the processing of coca paste.
According to the army, of the 7,248 terrorism or crime suspects either killed or captured, 3,009 were common criminals, 2,494 were members of the guerrilla group FARC and 719 belonged to drug trafficking organizations.
