Four Colombian soldiers Tuesday completed eleven years in FARC captivity, local media reported.
The four men were part of a group of 126 soldiers who were kidnapped when some 500 FARC guerrillas attacked the anti narcotic base Miraflores, Guaviare in 1998.
Most of the soldiers were released between 1998 and 2002. But colonel William Donato, sergeant Robinson Guarin, sergeant Arvey Delgado and deputy sergeant Alfredo Moreno are still in FARC captivity.
Only corporal Pablo Emilio Moncayo and corporal Jose Libio Martinez have been spending more time in the hands of the rebel group; twelve years in December.
The FARC promised to release soldier Moncayo months ago,
but efforts to capitalize this release were deadlocked over the
involvement of Senator Piedad Córdoba.
When the government accepted Cordoba’s involvement, Moncayo’s release seemed to be close. But the government also demanded the FARC should be releasing all hostages at once. This latest demand seems to delay the release of Moncayo again.
