4 killed in south Colombia ambush on police

Three policemen and one civilian were killed in an attack on a police patrol in the southern Colombian department of Caqueta.

According to several media reports, armed men ambushed the policemen in the rural area outside of the village of El Doncello.

The department’s government secretary told journalists that the policemen were attacked by “a group of still unidentified persons” while traveling through the region.

The southern Caqueta department has recently seen a surge in violence, primarily attributed to FARC guerrillas, who have a strong presence in the remote department.
