Four guerrillas have been killed during offensives in northern Colombia while 17 more surrendered to authorities, reported El Espectador Wednesday.
According to Army General Jorge Eleicer Suarez, the four casualties were the result of three separate operations in the departments of Cesar and La Guajira,
Each operation, carried out ground troops and Colombian Air Force, also resulted in the capture of weapons and other combat materials.
The 17 rebels confirmed to have surrendered had apparently operated in middle management positions for the past decade, engaging in extortion and intimidation of traders and farmers.
All but one are alleged to have worked for the Farc, Colombia´s largest rebel group, and one for the ELN.
