At least four Colombians were killed and two more injured in shoot-outs in Guatemala over the weekend.
According to Guatemalan newspaper La Hora, a group of Colombians was leaving a nightclub in Guatemala City early Saturday morning when armed men in two vehicles pulled up and began shooting at them.
Witnesses said the men tried to escape but the assailants chased them through the streets while continuing to shoot.
The attack left four dead. Police identified two as Juan David Ramos Diaz and Jefferson Andreu Avalos Marroquin, both from Colombia. They have yet to identify the other two, although one had a false Guatemalan identity card and unofficial sources told La Hora he is believed to be Colombian.
Three people survived the attack. One man, who was shot in the leg, told police he did not know the attackers and that they were trying kidnap the group.
Two more Colombians were killed near the town of Sumpango in south Guatemala on Sunday, in what appeared to be a botched robbery, reported Guatemalan daily Prensa Libre.
According to the local police chief, the group of Colombians decided to go for a walk in the forest after attending a meeting.
When three armed men then tried to rob them, one of the Colombians pulled out a gun. The shoot-out that followed left two Colombians, Luis Pulido and Pedro Jose Pulido, and one of the alleged robbers dead. Two more Colombians, Lubia Bareida and Nelson Pulido were seriously injured in the assault.
