Three people were missing after a landslide in central Colombia Thursday destroyed a house and apparently engulfed the residents inside, including two children, reported El Espectador.
The incident occurred in the town of El Roble, Antioquia Department, approximately 70km northeast of Colombia’s second city Medellin.
According to town Mayor Freddy Castaño Aristizabal, the landslide followed heavy rains and struck the house of Genaro Gomez, who subsequently went missing alongside his two children, a boy and girl who have not been named.
Nine other people were evacuated from two homes deemed to be at risk, but the rescue operation for the missing people had to be abandoned at 9pm Thursday due to continued rain and further landslides.
The search was due to recommence at 5.30am Friday.
