Colombia’s second guerrilla attack of the day left two dead in a FARC assault on a government delegation in Antioquia, Caracol Radio reports Tuesday.
A farmer and a soldier were killed by a sniper’s gunshots when FARC guerrillas attacked a government delegation in the village of Porroso, between the towns of Apartado and Mutata.
The delegation, which included the national director of Social Action Diego Molano, the commander of the national army’s 17th Brigade General Hernan Giraldo Quejadas and several journalists, was travelling to visit an indigenous community in the region.
Ahead of the government delegation was the president of the Association of Banana Producers of Colombia Roberto Hoyos and board members of the banana company Uniban, who passed through the area just before the shooting started.
The members of the official delegation experienced panic but none were harmed nor was there any attempt to detain them, according to Hoyos.
Despite the attack, the inaguaration ceremony for the Quirazabe indigenous villiage, which was built with contributions from the national government, was not postponed.
Tuesday morning a suspected guerrilla attack on a helicopter in southwest Colombia left at least six dead, including four police officers.
