The Bogota Convention Bureau has determined that there is an expected $2 million in business next year after hosting its first convention for tourist businesses last week.
The convention for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE Zone) hosted more than125 affiliated businesses of tourism on September 25.
It was the first specialized meeting of its kind held in order to “strengthen business and generate business opportunities,” according to the Bureau’s website. Attending companies included hotel chains, airlines, restaurants, tourists attractions and travel agencies, among others.
The expected $2 million of Bogota business is “an increase that is normal growth from last year,” the Bureau’s Executive Director, Alexandra Torres, told Colombia Reports.
The number “is not atypical, but is based on the never before held convention, therefore giving the bureau more of a foresight of what to expect from the coming year in the tourism business,” said Torres.
Torres added that “most of the convention was based on corporate tourism,” centered around corporate events that are held in the capital. Businesses interacted and promoted products to universities and multinational companies with headquarters in Bogota.
