Twenty-six Miss Colombia candidates, and their current queen, arrived in Cartagena Saturday to compete for the crown and wow judges with their drop-dead gorgeous looks.

The candidates are a feast for the eyes, as they represent the wide diversity of Colombian beauty with a rainbow range of skin, hair, and eye color. Most are exotic combinations of native Colombian and European heritage, with the exception of stunning Miss Choco and San Andres who proudly represent their Afro-Colombian roots.

On this topic, Miss San Andres commented that she “feels sure of her African descent, of my people and my culture, and of what I am and what I have.”

The beauty queens showed utter confidence in their conversations with judges; flourishing under the spotlight and fearlessly answering questions that were thrown at them like darts.

“I do not fear anything,” said candidate Cindy Lane May Escalona, Miss San Andres, who is the tallest of the National Beauty Pageant candidates.

Exquisite Miss Valle told judges that “I am the queen of my house, because in my family there has been no tradition of beauty queens” in a fashion show for guests and staff of Hotel Hilton in Cartagena.

Under the glow of the spotlight, with their sparkling get-ups reflecting light across the room, the queens moved with learned style and sophistication. They all appeared confident, although their one fear must be that of not winning the treasured Miss Colombia crown.

All of the bilingual beauties are students, studying everything from technology, administration and communication, and their ages range from 18 to 25.
