Colombia will have received over $10 billion in foreign direct investment by the end of 2010, says the director of Proexport, responsible for the promotion of investment and tourism in the country.
According to Proexport director Maria Claudia Lacoutre, most foreign money was invested in the oil and mining sector, telecommunication and infrastructure.
Economic magazine Dinero reported that Lacoutre estimates that by the end of the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos in 2014, Colombia will receive an annual $13 billion in foreign investment.
Proexport’s main goal for the coming years is the diversification of export. “Today we have 12,000 export companies of which half export to only one destination. We will help them find new markets,” Lacoutre was quoted as saying.
Lacoutra said that Colombia will focus more on the increase in export to Central American countries like Panama, Costa Rica and Guatemala.
