Two suspected criminals were detained by indigenous community members in west Colombia’s coffee growing region.
Members of the Suratena indigenous community, located near the municipality of Marsella in the Risaralda department, were able to disarm the two hooded men that broke into the security quarters of the community, Caracol Radio reported Friday, and public officials are waiting for the locals to turn them over to authorities.
The Caracol report does not indicate the identity or origin of the two men.
In mid-May, however, the same indigenous community released a report stating that “the indigenous community of Suratena is found to be threatened by the peasants that live around the farm where they reside, saying that if they don’t evacuate from the area, there could be a collective massacre,” according to regional newspaper El Diario, though they never filed an official complaint.
