Two people remain missing after a torrential downpour caused serious damage in the southwest Colombian city of Cali on Sunday evening.
Firefighters confirmed that two men, of 19 and 71 years of age, have been missing since being swept up by the swollen waters of Aguacatal River, which flows from the eastern mountains of the Valle del Cauca capital city.
Along with the two missing, 15 neighborhoods in the north of the city were flooded, falling trees caused damage to electrical networks and landslides temporarily interrupted the route to Buenaventura, Caracol Radio reported Monday.
The Cali Public Services Company has begun to repair the damage caused to the electrical network, and as of Monday morning, travel to Buenaventura has been restored.
Authorities are continuing search efforts for the two men, reported newspaper El Pais.
“For now the priority of our efforts is to find the whereabout of these two people, hopefully alive,” said Cali Government Secretary Eliana Salamanca.
