Two members of the Colombian House of Representatives have been banned from holding public office for awarding a renovation contract without following legal requisites, local media reported Friday.
House administrative director Jairo Jaramillo Matiz, and head of the legal division Carlos Alberto Florez Rojas, will not be allowed to hold positions in public offices for 14 and 13 years, respectively.
Matiz and Rojas were found to have been involved in “serious” irregularities in the selection of a contracting firm to renovate government administrative buildings. The two representatives skipped the public bidding process legally required for choosing a contractor, and instead hired contractor Infactic for the $6 million project.
The representative for Infactic owner Orlando Patino Silva was banned from public service for 12 years.
