Two miners were found dead Tuesday after a mining accident northern Colombia.
The incident took place along the Venezuelan border in the rural area outside of the city of Cucuta, Norte de Santander, after a landslide trapped two miners in a tunnel on Monday.
The bodies of the victims, a 35-year-old and a 38-year-old man, were recovered early in the morning.
Colombia’s mining authority has been ordered to investigate the legality and topographical condition of the mine.
Following a number of high-profile mining accidents in recent years, the Colombian government increased regulations and government inspections in 2011. However, according to Dow Jones, there are no reliable statistics on how many miners have been killed.
