Authorities have arrested two people suspected of being responsible for a car bomb detonated outside Caracol Radio’s offices in Bogota in the early morning of August 12, 2010, which injured nine people.
The explosion outside the Colombian radio station was the first large-scale terrorist attack to occur under current President Juan Manuel Santos’ administration. The damaged building also contained the office of former Colombian President Cesar Gaviria.
Jose Alonso Rivera Duran and Miguel Angel Bobadilla Prada were the two arrested, with one of them accused of building the bomb and the other of driving the Chevrolet Swift car containing the bomb, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.
There have now been three men detained in relation to the car bombing. Edilson Moreno Barragan was arrested in January 2011 after being accused of allowing the car bomb to be constructed in his shop.
Two witnesses, Adelmo Lopez and Gustavo Ladino, remain under protection from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The motives for the attack have not yet been fully established, with early suspicions of FARC links now appearing to have been erroneous.
