19 injured in explosion in army compound

An accident with explosives in an army compound in the north of
Colombia Tuesday left sixteen soldiers and three civilians injured.

The explosion occurred when members of an army engineers battalion in Puerto Berrio, Antioquia were handling grenades, an army spokesman confirmed.

Eleven of the injured soldiers were taken to the local hospital. Five others were flown to Medellin.

The Army is investigating the accident.
