Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Tuesday his administration had achieved 72% of its goal to create 2.5 million new jobs between 2010 and 2014.
According to the president, who on Tuesday headed an employment workshop attended by the labor, agricultural and education ministers, said Colombia had 19 million people active in the workforce in 2010 and 20.8 million in 2012, representing an increase of 1.8 million jobs in less than two years, radio station W Radio reported.
Colombia’s unemployment in June stood at 10.1%, which was nearly a 1% decrease compared to the same month in 2011.
Thursday, Colombian newspaper El Espectador reported 19.1% of all 14 to 26 year-olds lacked employment during the period of April to June this year.
