Colombia’s national team has climbed up to fourth position in the FIFA World rankings published on Thursday.
The “Cafeteros” are the biggest movers in the top 10, shooting from eight place to fourth behind Argentina, Belgium and Chile.
The jump in position comes in the wake of impressive victories over Bolivia and Ecuador recently in the South American section of World Cup qualifying.
Belgium’s five-month reign in the No. 1 spot is over following two excellent victories by Argentina against Chile and Bolivia in World Cup qualifying.
Despite a defeat to Argentina, Chile jumped up two spots into third, an all-time high for the South American side.
South American teams feature heavily in the top 10, with Brazil and Uruguay also occupying positions behind Colombia in seventh and ninth respectively.
FIFA said in the April issue of classification, they have computed a total of 171 matches, 51 qualifiers for the World Cup Russia-2018, 60 continental qualifiers and as many friendlies.
Colombia’s next action is a friendly against Haiti on May 29 before facing the USA in the centenary Copa America six days later on June 4.
